6 THINGS THAT MAKE DRAGONBALL SO OVERRATEDNovember 5, 2019
Dragon Ball is a series that I believe everybody’s heard about at some point in time as it was, and still is one of the most popular anime series ever.
The series, which was brought to life by Akira Toriyama and Toei Animation is considered by many to be the pioneer of modern shōnen but despite that there’s no denying the fact that the show gets a lot more praise and credit than it deserves.
Dragon Ball a series isn’t perfect and I believe that it does indeed have a lot of flaws, so I’m just going to point them out.
IT DOESN’T HAVE A STORY
Firstly, I’d like to point out that at this point the Dragon Ball series doesn’t really have a plot. It just follows the same recursive pattern (strong villain shows up and beats the crap out of everyone, then Goku unlocks a new form to defeat him with) hoping that we won’t notice. Well we did notice, and we’re not happy about it.
The first entries in the Dragon Ball series could be said to have had a real story but as more and more sequels were produced the series basically became that old ride at the amusement park that everybody rides just because it was once the best thing at the time.
Dragon Ball has run out of juice and the lack of a solid plot makes the series nothing more than a generic show with a lot more action than average. I mean let’s not forget that Dragon Ball kai is just Dragon Ball z with some scenes cut out.
SCREAMING = MORE POWER
Another thing that gets on my nerves when I think about or even try to watch Dragon Ball is the absurd amount of screaming that happens on-screen in this show is just appalling. I mean one minute a character is lying on the ground beaten then all of a sudden they’re back on their feet screaming and all of a sudden they’re all right? Absurd I tell you.
What good does screaming do the body. It should make you weaker, not the other way around. And besides, they scream for way too long in this show. I mean, have you seen Goku do a Kamehameha?
TOO MANY TRANSFORMATIONS
This goes together with the whole “screaming for power” thing mentioned earlier. The way characters transform is mind blowing at first, but as of now its become something so common that whenever it happens I’m hardly surprised or impressed and I can’t help but think “Of course he got a new form! How else were they gonna beat that guy!😒 ” Plus, what’s with the whole “growing hair when unlocking a new form”? Its annoying!
These are the forms Goku has of which I am currently aware: Kaioken, Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan 3, Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue, Super Saiyan 4 & Ultra Instinct. Does that seem like too many or is that just me?
I know Dragon Ball fans will say “Saiyans have no growth limit, that’s why he keeps getting new forms” but I just wanna ask wether or not that makes people like me angry, like how many times will a character break through its limits.
This kind of power scaling is one of the things that is killing anime. Failing to set a skill ceiling for your series is bound to bring about future inconsistencies and problems. I just wanna say, I’m not a fan of the whole transformation thing and I believe its also one of the things that’s killing the series.
RESURRECTIONS (A.K.A “THE SUPERMAN PROBLEM”)
Well well well,…… its Superman all over again. Why is it that characters din’t die in this series? I know a lot of characters have died, but a lot of them have been resurrected.
This is something that angers me because the series is basically laughing at the concept of death. If the characters in this show are mortals and all mortals must die at a certain point in time, why is it that this show brings them back whenever?
I know this concept isn’t foreign to other shows like Naruto, but at least characters often stay dead for a good period of time in those shows. But Dragon Ball? Nope! Goku’s basically just a glorified Japanese Superman at this point and there’s nothing we can do to change it.
THIS GOD-AWFUL MOVIE
Do I really have to talk about this? Its too painful to put in words. I mean we all know live action adaptions are never good but this was just a disaster. How can you make the main character of your series look like a total stranger to his fans. I’m not gonna talk about this movie cause its not worth it. If you want to lose your faith in humanity then you’re free to find this movie and watch it, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
IT REALLY SHOULD JUST END
I mean no harm when I say that the Dragon Ball series should just pack its bags and leave, because at the rate things are going its gonna die out sooner or later, and based on what I’ve seen I believe that the series is just trying to cling hard to and maintain the quality and reputation it has built over the years, but I think its gonna run itself into the ground.
Now I’m not saying that Dragon Ball is in anyway a bad series, but as I’ve done in the past, I’m trying to let it be known that this series is in no way a perfect show.
Sure it may be popular but that doesn’t make it the best show out there, and based on what I’ve seen there are by far a lot of better shows out there.
So without further ado I would like to firmly say that I believe the Dragon Ball series is overrated.
